Sims 2 Glitch - Chess Board affecting Sim's arm

I've had this glitch before but never caught what my Sim was doing at the time he got bugged in this way, and therefore I've never really had a clue what to do to fix it.

Joe Ugly and Mary Ugly went off into the bedroom in the evening with Wally and his friend playing outside, but they didn't conceive, so when Wally was painting in the livingroom the next morning, Joe and Mary had been playing chess together for an hour and decided to stop doing that and try again for a baby.

Mary was the one who cancelled out the chess playing, and it looks like Joe was in the middle of taking one of her pieces when the 'quit' command went through. The result is Joe walking everywhere with his left arm in the position it's in in this picture.

I've sat them down again to play chess and I'm hoping he'll come out okay this time.
